Forty COVID-19 related deaths and 1677 infections were recorded on Friday, taking the death toll to 8,514 and the caseload to 699,164, according to the daily media brief by the Health Ministry and the Prime Ministry.
The new infections were: 619 in Amman, 248 in Irbid, 175 in Zarqa, 148 in Mafraq, 97 in Balqaa, 81 in Karak, 77 in Aqaba, 69 in Jerash, 59 in Ajloun, 37 in Madaba, 34 in Maan, and 33 cases in Tafila.
It said that the number of currently active cases stood at 29,218 and that 195 were today admitted to hospitals and 277 were discharged.
On the capacity of hospitals in the Kingdom, the statement said that the occupancy rate of isolation beds in the northern region was at 29 per cent, intensive care beds 58 per cent and ventilators 34 per cent.
In the Central region, isolation beds were at an occupancy rate of 36 per cent, ICU beds at 54 per cent and ventilators 29 per cent, it said.
In the south, it added, the occupancy rate of isolation beds reached 21 per cent, ICU beds 24 per cent and ventilators 15 per cent.
It said that 16,827 PCR tests were collected today, bringing the total number of tests conducted since the start of the pandemic to 6,581,824, and that the positivity rate today was about 9.97 per cent, compared to 11.5 recorded yesterday.
