Deputy prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi on Sunday said that the security agencies followed activities and movements of Prince Hamzah, sharif Hassan bin Zaid and Bassem Awadallah through a comprehensive investigation conducted by Army, General Intelligence and Public Security Directorate.

The movements and activities would threaten the security and stability of Jordan as connections with foreign bodies have been detected to determine the suitable time to destabilize the security of Jordan.

The minister added that His Majesty King Abdullah has received a recommendation on the situation by security agencies to refer the case to the State Security Court after the investigations revealed that there are connections with foreign bodies in an attempt to destabilize the security of the country. However, King Abdullah decided that he will speak with Prince Hamzah directly, yet the security of Jordan is the top priority.

The minister also indicated that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, Major General Yousef Huneiti has met Prince Hamzah and told him to stop all his movements and activities which would threaten the security and stability of Jordan.

 

The minister added that People around Prince Hamzah communicated with entities calling themselves external opposition, stating that there is a connection between Bassem Awadallah and what is called external opposition to destabilize the security of Jordan, indication that there is a communication between Prince Hamzah and Bassem Awadallah.   

 

A person linked to foreign security services offered Prince Hamzah’s wife a plane to leave Jordan, the minister stated.

 

Prince Hamza sought to mobilize local figures for actions designed to harm national security, indicating that Prince Hamzah appeared in two videos speaking in both Arabic and English to distort facts, invite local, foreign sympathy. This reflects his intentions and the fact of his activities and provoking citizens against the state in an unacceptable way, the Minister said.  

 

The minister confirmed that the number of those arrested is 16 in addition to Bassem Awadallah and sharif Hassan bin Zaid, clarifying that all actions, activities and moves have been contained early.
