cold weather

Ammon News - Mercury levels on Thursday are expected to mark 4-5 degrees below annual average, bringing relatively cold weather in the highlands and the plains, while it will be moderate in the Jordan Valley and Aqaba, with low clouds and a chance of light showers of rain in the northern areas.

According to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD), the weather will turn to be colder at night with northwesterly moderate to brisk winds at times.

The weather department also warned of poor visibility due to fog and dust formation in the highlands and the Badia regions, and of slippery roads in the areas experiencing rain.

On Friday, temperatures will dip few degrees, so it will be very cold and partly cloudy with a chance of intermittent rain in the northern and central highlands, the JMD predicted, noting that winds will be westerly active with strong gusts at times, blowing dust in eastern, southern and parts of the central regions.

Toward night, skies will gradually clear and rainfall will taper off, the JMD further said.

As we head into Saturday, mercury levels will slightly rise, making relatively cold weather in hilly areas and the plains, and fair conditions in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba, with low-altitude clouds and northwesterly moderate winds, the department noted.

The highs in Amman and other highlands across the Kingdom will range between 12 and 15 degrees Celsius today, dropping to 3C at night. In the Red Sea port of Aqab, it will be much warmer with mercury levels reaching 24C.
