Jordan JD448mln COVID-19 relief bill announced

Ahmad Alhamed - Prime Minister, Dr Bisher AlKhasawneh on Wednesday announced a COVID-19 JD448mln relief bill.

The government signed JD70mln contracts for vaccine procurement, Prime Minister added.

 

“We aim to reach Summer in a safe situation, where various sectors will be reopened and this requires commitment to preventive measures, register to take the vaccines and protecting the capacity of health sector”, Prime Minister stated.

For his part, Minister of Finance, Mohamad Al-Ississ on Wednesday said that Social protection networks will be augmented with JD60mln.

JD240mln will be specified to pay off dues owed to hospitals, pharmaceutical firms, tax refunds as well as other firms, the Minister added.

With regards to solidarity schemes, 60K additional households have been added, the Minister noted.

 

For his part, Minister of State for Media Affairs and the government spokesperson, Sakher Dudin said that the COVID-19 relief bill includes mitigating and motivational measures.

 

The relief bill is the simplest thing that we can offer to Jordanian citizens under the current critical situation of COVID-19 pandemic, Dudin added.

 

The relief bill is divided into six axes: measures related to strengthening social protection, measures related to job opportunities in private sectors, easing measures of public transportation sector, easing measures related to investment activities and easing measures related to obtaining due money from citizens and economic activities, Dudin stated.

 

With regard to job opportunities, the relief bill will provide more than 14500 job opportunities until the end of the current year and protect more than 100000 job employment opportunities in private sector, Dudin added.
