The State Security Court (SSC) handed two suspects a 9-year prison term on charges related to targeting military sites, public security patrols and two churches in the capital, Amman, and threatening to carry out terror acts on the Jordanian soil two years ago.
During a public session held Thursday, the court sentenced a defendant to a 9-year prison term with temporary labor on charges of threatening to carry out terrorist acts, promoting ideology of a terrorist group and trying to join armed groups, and planning to target military sites and churches with explosive devices and materials.
Per the trial proceedings, the suspect inspected two churches in the capital, Amman, in 2019, and plotted to target them with automatic weapons during the celebrations of Christmas and New Year's Eve, but the competent authorities foiled his scheme.
Meanwhile, the court handed down a 9-year prison term for the other defendant, who threatened to carry out terror acts, promote ideology of a terrorist group, and target military sites and security patrols in central Zarqa governorate and Muwaqqar region, east of the capital, Amman, in 2019.
