Minister of Interior, Mazen Faraya, took part in the meetings of the 38th session of the Arab Interior Ministers Council (AIMC), which was held remotely Thursday, in Tunis.
The virtual event, which saw the participation of Arab interior ministers and Arab League secretary general, went over means to enhance joint Arab security cooperation.
In a speech delivered at the session, Faraya expressed hope to pave the road to "building an Arab society fortified against the scourges of crime in all its forms."
The minister said the event coincides with "sensitive regional and international conditions, and exceptional circumstances in terms of security and health aspects facing the Arab region, triggered by Covid-19 pandemic, and the continuing repercussions of political and economic crises in many regional countries, which have imposed unprecedented security challenges due to their precariousness and diversity."
This atmosphere has led to "a growing and expanding environment" conducive to terrorist crimes, the spread of weapons, drugs, money laundering, human trafficking, which requires the Arab nations to work hard to ward off these threats and dangers, the minister told the attendees.
Faraya added that Arab countries are required now to harness all their available capabilities to continue developing action programs and security plans, to address the diverse challenges.
Continuing: " Our effort is based on our firm belief that fighting these criminal phenomena, foremost of which is terrorism and extremism, can only take place within the framework of joint Arab cooperation and coordination, and action to find appropriate political solutions to end conflicts and tensions in the region."
