His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday urged cooperation among all, and adherence to public safety instructions to control the spread of COVID-19, in light of the surge in infections.

During a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace with the president of the Senate and heads of a number of its committees, King Abdullah said the sooner Jordan manages to limit the spread of COVID-19, the faster it would be able to provide the necessary conditions to safely and carefully reopen sectors, which would support the national economy.

Reaffirming that the priority is always citizens’ health and wellbeing, His Majesty noted there are ongoing efforts to increase the amount of available vaccines and secure them as soon as possible, especially amidst high international demand.

The King stressed the need to move forward in administrative reform and to continue political development efforts.

For his part, Senate President Faisal Fayez said the priority is to control the pandemic and prepare a strategy to address the economic and social challenges facing Jordan, stressing the importance of administrative reform and political development.

Attendees commended His Majesty’s firm response in calling for accountability for those proven negligent in the incident of oxygen outage at Al Hussein Hospital in Salt, stressing their commitment to continue cooperation with all state institutions towards political, economic, and social development.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi attended the meeting.
