Ammon News - Minister of Water and Irrigation, Mohammad Najjar, discussed with the Egyptian Ambassador to Jordan, Sherif Kamal, on Wednesday, ways to strengthen aspects of water cooperation.

Speaking during the meeting, Najjar reviewed Jordan's water conditions, and the "growing, and accelerating" development needs and the challenges this process has imposed on the water sector, especially in light of the continued Covid-19 pandemic.

The minister also highlighted the projects that Jordan is planning to implement to address those water challenges, especially through launching desalination projects, developing irrigation systems and reusing treated water for the various purposes, enhancing joint water cooperation, and exchanging experiences.

Najjar stressed the increasing water challenges facing Jordan due to the climate changes, the decline in rain rates, and the increasing demand as a result of refugee waves that Jordan has been suffered during the past years, the most recent of which is related to the Syrian crisis and the burden the Kingdom has faced in all sectors, especially the water system, in addition to effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ministry was able, thanks to all efforts, to reach a level of "distinguished" services and achieve "successive" successes in various water fields and implemented a number of strategic projects, some of which have been completed, according to Najjar.

The ministry is continuing its efforts to accomplish other projects soon, which will be reflected positively and significantly on Jordan's water reality, he noted.

The Jordanian government, through the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, seeks to make successful of all forms of "constructive" cooperation with Egypt in the water and sanitation sectors by exchanging expertise, and integrating modern technology in the irrigation systems and reusing treated water, according to Najjar.

For his part, the envoy appreciated the continued cooperation to serve common interests, and reviewed a number of successful Egyptian experiences in the irrigation fields, and implementation of new water projects.

Lauding the level of Jordan's water sector, despite the related challenges, he expressed the Egyptian government's readiness to support all efforts aimed at developing joint water cooperation, and exchanging "distinguished" experiences.
