Ammon News - The Ministry of Health, in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), on Thursday launched a training program to enhance the capacity of multidisciplinary health care teams working in field hospitals.

The ministry's Secretary-General and official in charge of the COVID-19 crisis, Wael Hayajneh, described the training program, conducted under the direct supervision of specialist trainers, as 'distinguished', adding that it is a qualitative addition to the skills and expertise of the field hospital personnel.

The program is followed by a training of trainers program, which will provide the ministry’s staff with the opportunity to continue training on a permanent and ongoing basis.

The training program, he stated, which will continue until next June, is carried out via the Internet and includes applied sessions at field hospital sites, and covers many special clinical areas for critical care, respiratory therapy and respiration for coronavirus patients.

The training of trainers program covers the treatment of various cases of COVID-19 patients and special technical training provided to hospital directors and supervisors, such as management skills, communication, quality control and human resource development.

Over 400 trainees from Ministry of Health's field hospitals and from different areas from Amman, Irbid, Aqaba and Ma'an will join the training, Hayajneh added.

The training enables frontline medical care providers to address the pandemic in many areas, such as taking samples for testing, providing treatment to patients, including critical cases, and protecting themselves and their colleagues from infection.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Local Health System Sustainability Project funded by the USAID has provided special training to treat coronavirus patients for about 4,000 medical personnel working in the public and private sectors.

The agency worked with the Ministry of Health and experts to develop training materials that build on the current skills of medical personnel and support their work in field hospitals to treat COVID-19 patients, including critical cases.
