Hungarian parliament passes law to extend the state of emergency

Ammon News - Hungarian Parliament on Monday passed a bill on extending the state of emergency and special legal order in connection with measures to protect the country against the coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, the government is able to extend related decrees by 90 days.

According to the vote which was occurred on Monday, the law to extend the special legal order in connection with measures to protect the country against the coronavirus pandemic was passed with 133 votes in favour while 55 against.

This is the second time in which the government of Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán obtained law passing to extend the related decrees, after the original state of emergency was imposed for 15 days only at the beginning of November.

At that time, the opposition voted in favour of the extension, while those who voted against this extension recently said that Orbán abused power, let corruption grow and abolished the universities from being independent.

State of emergency allows the government to shut down restaurants and cultural institutions as well as impose night curfew between 8.00 pm and 5.00 Am as measures to protect the country against the coronavirus pandemic.
