Ammon News - The impact of a chilly air mass accompanying a depression is expected to deepen in the early morning hours of Wednesday, as temperatures will sharply drop, bringing bitter cold and partly cloudy weather along with spotty rain, thunder, lightning and hail that may mix with snow in the western and parts of the eastern regions.
According to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD), snow showers are also forecast over the high mountain peaks that are 1,000 meters above sea level and higher, while winds will be southwesterly active with strong gusts exceeding 80 kilometers per hour and blowing dust in the Badia.
At night, the polar front will sweep the Kingdom and rainfall will stretch to cover various regions and may turn heavy accompanied by thunder, lightning and hail in some cities, the JMD said, adding that snow flurries are also forecast in mountainous areas that are 800 meters above sea level and higher.
The weather department also warned of poor visibility due to dust and fog formation, strong and gusty winds, slippery roads, flash floods in the northern and central areas, and of the possibility of snow accumulation over highlands as well as the high waves in the Gulf port of Aqaba.
On Thursday, the Kingdom will remain under the impact of the polar front. Therefore, freezing and cloudy conditions will continue to prevail with occasionally heavy rain with thunder, lightning and hail, and a chance of snowfall over the mountainous areas that are 1,000 meters above sea level, the forecasters predicted, noting that the perception will decrease at night in the southern parts of the country, while winds will be westerly brisk.
Friday is forecast to bring in similar chilly, cloudy and rainy conditions, with southwesterly moderate to active winds, the department further said.
Daytime temperatures expected for today will reach 5 degrees Celsius in Amman, 3C in the northern cities and 2C in the southern highlands, dropping down to 0,-1 and -2C respectively at night. The weather will be warmer in the port city of Aqaba with highs reaching 13C and lows standing at 7C, the JMD explained.
