The Ministry of Health said Tuesday it recorded 18 deaths from and 2,657 cases of the coronavirus across the Kingdom, bringing the death toll to 4,491 and the total number of infections to 352,219.
The new infections were: 1,649 in Amman, 226 in Irbid, including 7 in Ramtha district, 217 in Zarqa, 195 in Balqa, 78 in Karak, 59 in Ajloun, 52 in Aqaba, 50 in Madaba, 48 in Jerash, 33 in Tafileh, 26 in Ma'an, including 4 in Petra and 24 in Mafraq, according to the daily brief by the Health Ministry and the Prime Ministry on the pandemic.
It said that the number of currently active cases reached 18,217, with 130 admitted to hospitals today and 90 discharged.
It pointed out that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases receiving treatment in hospitals today reached 718, while the number of isolation beds used in hospitals for confirmed and suspected cases yesterday stood at 596, with an occupancy rate of 15%. It said that a total of 159 ICU beds were used yesterday, at an occupancy rate of 18 per cent, and 64 patients were on ventilators.
The report also said that 1,280 cases recovered today in home isolation and in hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 329,511.
It said that 32,347 swab tests were taken today, bringing the total number of PCR tests conducted since the start of the pandemic to 4,266,806, with a positivity rate today of 8.21 per cent.
The Ministry called for adherence to defence orders and to follow preventive measures, especially wearing masks and avoiding gatherings of more than 20 people, and awareness campaigns it launched in partnership with a number of ministries and entities to prevent coronavirus infection, and also urged the public to sign on for vaccination.
