The Egyptian and Jordanian FMs also reviewed regional issues of mutual concern and discussed means to boost bilateral relations, the statement added.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, on Monday ahead of an emergency Arab League (AL) foreign ministers's meeting set for later today in Cairo, ahram reported.

Shoukry and Safadi coordinated approach for the emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers to discuss an Arab stance on recent developments in the Palestinian cause, a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry read.

The emergency AL foreign ministers's meeting on the Palestinian cause was called as per an Egyptian-Jordanian initiative, and will be led by Egypt as the current chair of the AL.

The Egyptian and Jordanian FMs also reviewed regional issues of mutual concern and discussed means to boost bilateral relations, the statement added.

The two countries agreed that the AL foreign ministers' emergency meeting comes to “emphasize the fundamentals of the Arab stance towards the Palestinian cause and the endeavour to provide the political climate required for the re-engagement of the Palestinian and Israeli sides in a serious negotiation path,” the statement said.

Egypt and Jordan have cooperated to revive the frozen Israel-Palestinian peace process at the quartet level with Germany and France, and at the tripartite level with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki in Cairo, according to ahram.

The two FMs also affirmed the need to “halt all foreign intervention” in the internal affairs of Arab countries’ and advance political solutions to all crises of the region in a way that consolidates security and stability of Arab people, the statement added.

Hossam Zaki, the assistant secretary general to the Arab League, said in remarks to the media on Sunday he expects that consensus among Arab states on a proposed draft resolution that reaffirms the Arab nations’ constant stances on Palestine will be reached in the emergency meeting.
