Ammon News - Thousands of people have been left divided by the optical illusion, which has gone viral on Twitter, leaving lots of social media users stumped at the answer.

It's almost the end of the week, we're in what feels like the 17th months of lockdown, and the brain cells may be feeling frazzled but, if you can - try and fire them up to figure this out.

Once again, people on the internet are divided.

They've been left scratching their heads and debating a mind-bending picture filled with a spectrum of colour.

The question on people's lips is: "How many colours do you see?"

Answers range from 11, to 3 and a whopping 39 - so there really is a range of possibilities.

At first glance, the image, shared to Twitter, looks like it will be simple to figure it.

The original poster asked: "How many colors do you see???? i see 3."

People are finding it difficult to agree on the exact number of colours they can see.

In addition, visibility depends on a screen's level of brightness, saturation and contrast.

One person joked: "I see 103."

Another said: "I see 11 distinctive colors and more if you count faint lines between two of the colors as they transition."

A third added: "20 -21, if the thin lines are included."

One person had a decent explanation as to why people had such varying answers.

They tweeted: "To all the people here being confused.. it mostly has something to do with your output device (smartphone, laptop etc.), bc the color rendering differs a lot more between devices than you think!

"Also if you are viewing it in dark or light mode, your surrounding light in real life, etc."
