FM, Emirati counterpart hold talks over ties, region

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi held talks in Abu Dhabi, on Thursday, with his Emirati counterpart His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Talks between the top diplomats covered bilateral ties and ways to further boost them in various scopes of cooperation.

Talks also went over efforts aimed at fighting the novel coronavirus and its impacts, as Safadi expressed appreciation to the UAE for its support to the Kingdom in facing economic challenges.

The two ministers stressed the importance of pan-Arab action in facing common challenges, protecting Arab interests, and preventing foreign interference in Arab affairs.

They also discussed preparations for an extraordinary meeting of Arab foreign ministers slated to be held in Cairo on February 8.

The two sides reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause, reiterating Jordan and UAE steadfast support of the Palestinians' legitimate right to establish their independent state on June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Safadi stressed that the Gulf states' security is an integral part of Jordan’s security, voicing the Kingdom's support to any steps by these states that pour into safeguarding their security and stability.

Fighting terrorism, Syria, Yemen, Libya, and Iraq were figured high during the talks, as Safadi and Sheikh Abdullah agreed to continue coordination and consultation on various regional issues.
