Ammon News - The Jordan Maritime Authority (JMA) on Monday announced it collected JD3.668 million in 2020 as revenues for the State Treasury, acquired from its various services.
A statement by JMA Director-General, Mohammad Salman, said that the revenues were earned from fees received for securing the ships coming into Jordanian territorial waters, annual fees for vessels registered under the Jordanian Flag, renewal of Maritime Agencies Licenses, renewal of certificates for graduates of Jordanian maritime education institutes, docking of vessels in Jordanian territorial waters, approval of port facilities, and renewal of licenses for boats operating in regional waters.
"The authority’s estimated 2021 budget is JD1.579 million, of which JD1.364 million is allocated for current expenditures while JD215 thousand is for capital expenditures," he added.
Salman pointed out that 90 percent of the global trade takes place overseas, which confirms the importance of the maritime transport sector, making aware that 80 percent of Jordan's trade flows through the port of Aqaba, as a primary gateway for the national market.
