Ammon News - Some 200 Palestinian prisoners held by the Israeli occupation authorities had been infected with the coronavirus since the beginning of the year, bringing the total number of infections to about 340, most of them in Ramon and Negev detention centres, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Affairs Commission.

Commission spokesman Hassan Abed Rabbo said in a statement Saturday that five detainees, including one sentenced to life, were admitted to Israeli hospitals and the Ramla Prison clinic after their condition deteriorated.

He said that prisoners and their families were concerned over the "deliberate medical negligence" by prison authorities and the suspension of visits, adding that an Israeli court had rejected a petition to release a prisoner who had cancer and is currently held at the Soroka Medical Center.

Abed Rabbo confirmed that the Israeli prisons authority continues the prolonged isolation of four prisoners, including 2 women, adding that another two brothers from Jenin were on an open-ended hunger strike to protest the conditions of their detention.
