Ammon News - During a workshop held by the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), a study has recommended ways to revive the tourism, culture, social entrepreneurship and family shopping services downtown Amman.

The workshop, which was held on Wednesday, comes within the 2nd phase of the "Heart of Amman" project, funded by a grant from the Japanese government, with the aim of improving downtown area's economic and social conditions, reviving its economic activities, and providing job and leadership opportunities for youth and women, in societies affected by refugee waves and the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking during the workshop, GAM deputy director for community development, Hatem Hamlan, said the GAM supports and adopts all initiatives aimed with the implementation of projects and studies to serve Amman and its residents in all aspects.

The study, he said, will contribute to providing an economic and social analysis of the downtown area and preparing a development plan based on evidence and data to show the most important challenges and solutions.

The event comes to enhance livelihoods and social leadership by empowering local communities and taking advantage of opportunities for comprehensive economic development in the historic and heritage downtown area in Amman, according to Hamlan.
