House Palestine committee, FM review Palestinian cause developments

Ammon News - Head of the Lower House Palestine Committee, MP Mohammed Dhahrawi, highlighted His Majesty King Abdullah II's firm stances towards the Palestinian cause to realize the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people and defend Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem based on the Hashemite guardianship.

Speaking during the meeting on Wednesday, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, Dhahrawi lauded the King's positions towards the Palestinian people to obtain all their rights and establish their independent state, and commended his efforts in protecting and defending the holy sites in Jerusalem.

For his part, Safadi stressed that the Kingdom, based on its firm principles and clear stances, will support the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights and achieve a just and comprehensive peace accepted by the peoples, which leads to ending the occupation, establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with its capital occupied Jerusalem on the 4th of June 1967 lines, in accordance with international law, international legitimacy resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Safadi also stressed that protecting the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and preserving its Arab identity is a priority for the Kingdom.

The Hashemite guardianship, Safadi noted, has "worked to protect the holy sites," noting that the Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque endowment departments have resumed today the restoration works inside the Haram al-Sharif in the holy city.

With regard to the Jordanian citizens in Israeli prisons, Safadi indicated that the ministry, through the Jordanian embassy in Tel Aviv, is following up on their affairs continuously to provide consular and legal services to them.

Safadi affirmed Jordan's efforts and continuous endeavors to ensure continued support for UNRWA to enable it to continue providing its services according to its international mandate.
