Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh met Tuesday with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Nayef Al-Hajraf and stressed the "deep and brotherly" relations between Jordan and the Gulf Arab countries, and their joint interest in cementing cooperation in the various fields.
"Relations between Jordan and the GCC states, which enjoy the patronage and attention of His Majesty King Abdullah II and his brothers, the leaders of the Gulf Arab states, are solid and fraternal, and enhanced by cooperation bonds to serve common interests," he said.
"These relations have been built on constants devoted to serving pan-Arab causes, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue, in a way that guarantees the establishment of an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital," he said.
The Prime Minister valued the GCC countries' support to Jordan in facing economic challenges, promoting development plans and modernizing the economy.
He pointed to the "broad common prospects for institutionalized cooperation in the various fields for the benefit of both sides, and activation of joint work teams on the key aspects of bilateral cooperation."
Khasawneh also referred to the broad investment prospects in Jordan and the GCC nations, and the importance of boosting them, as well as cooperation in the various sectors to promote common interests and the close Jordan-GCC ties.
The Prime Minister also congratulated the GCC for the outcomes of the Al-Ula summit and the reconciliation it has achieved, which "will have a great impact on promoting joint Arab action and serving Arab causes and interests."
For his part, the GCC chief stressed the deep ties with Jordan, which he described as brotherly, close and based on a common interest to place cooperation in a strategic institutional framework.
He also underlined the importance of the 15 joint working teams on the various areas of cooperation, and the need to set their priorities to achieve the aspired-for results in the priority sectors, such as agriculture, food security, health, transport and the economy.
Al-Hajraf said Arab issues, top of which is the Palestinian issue, are a constant priority of GCC states, which support the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to set up an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
