Greater Amman Municipality receives 30 road sweepers from EBRD

Ammon News - The Greater Amman Municipality received 30 diesel-powered road sweepers at a cost of JD4.8 million, half of which is a grant from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the other half is a loan.

Twelve other electric-powered smaller cleaning machines were also handed over.

The cost-efficient and echo-friendly machines will contribute to implementing environmental strategies, including road cleanliness and public safety, according to officials.

Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh said that the municipality's institutional goals are in line with the national and global sustainable development goals, pointing out that the introduction of the sweepers into its fleet will raise the efficiency of service to maintain the cleanliness of the city and the safety of environmental workers on highways, tunnels and bridges, and reduce emissions, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Speaking during a ceremony to deliver the sweepers, the mayor thanked the EBRD for providing the funding and grant, and the partners from the private sector for their cooperation.

The deployment of the high-quality sweepers on highways will limit the presence of municipal workers, whose safety is under an increasing threat due to a rise in vehicle on roads, said municipality official Hussein Rbeihat.
