Tourism revenues dropped by 81% in 2020

Ammon News - The revenues transferred to the Treasury from the tourism sector in 2020 dropped by 81 per cent compared with 2019, a study prepared by the National Academy for Tourism and Aviation revealed on Monday.

The results were announced during a meeting between the academy and the Economic and Social Council to discuss the outcomes of the study titled: “The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Jordanian tourism sector from the perspective of workers and investors: Problems and solutions”.

The Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported that Muhammad Halaiqah, head of the council, said that the study reviews several issues related to the tourism sector during the pandemic.

Mahmoud Dweiri, head of the academy, said that the study was a field effort that was conducted through interviews with stakeholders with the aim of reaching recommendations and proposals to be delivered to the government to help in the recovery and resilience of the sector.
