Jordan, Afghan foreign ministers talk peace in Afghanistan, region

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, and his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Hanif Atmar for a discussion on the efforts exerted to realize peace and bring reconciliation in Afghanistan, and regional developments.

Safadi underscored the Kingdom's support for the efforts led by the Afghan government to realize peace and eradicate terrorism to meet the aspirations of the Afghani people in prosperity and growth.

He inveighed against the latest series of terror attacks that have taken place in Afghanistan and claimed the lives of many citizens and servicemen, stressing Jordan's position in rejection of all forms of terror and violence.

In turn, Atmar praised Jordan's support for the Afghan peace efforts and its role in upholding regional peace and stability; and entrenching pan-Islamic cooperation and coordination.

He highlighted the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem in safeguarding and maintaining the historical status quo in the holy city.

Safadi and Atmar agreed to bolster cooperation at international platforms, chief of which is the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
