Ammon News - His Majesty King Abdullah II enjoys great international appreciation for his role and tireless efforts to promote peace in a world dominated by tensions, insecurity and conflicts, Ambassador of Republic of South Africa in Amman, Ebrahim Saley said according to the Jordan News Agency (Petra) on Saturday.

The envoy congratulated Jordan’s leadership, government and people on the occasion of the Kingdom's centennial, pointing to the importance of the mutual visits between the leadership of both countries. "The most recent was the visit of His Majesty the King to South Africa in 2005, which resulted in the abolition of the visa requirement for citizens of the two countries, with the aim of encouraging trade and tourism," according to the Jordan News Agency (Petra).

"Despite the modest trade exchange between the two countries, both sides are looking forward to bolster it," he added, stressing the significance of the tourism sector while noting that South Africans do not actually realize the historical and religious importance of the many Jordanian tourist sites, and likewise, Jordanians need to be encouraged to visit South Africa to enjoy its nature and biodiversity.

Commenting on the Palestinian cause, Saley reaffirmed that his country’s position is consistent with the international legitimacy in supporting the two-state solution based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, according to (Petra).

The envoy also hailed the Jordanian Armed Forces’ peace keeping missions in different parts of the world, which also included female peacekeepers who played a vital role in resolving conflicts, in which women and children are affected the most.
