Ammon News - AMMONNEWS – Banan Malkawi - The 2009 Legatum Prosperity Index ranked Jordan (80) in overall prosperity and well-being.
The Prosperity Index assesses 104 countries, accounting for 90 percent of the world’s population, using factors that determine a “holistic definition of prosperity” to include both material wealth and quality of life. The index produces rankings based on the foundations of prosperity, the factors that help drive economic growth or produce happy citizens in a given country.
The factors that contributed to Jordan’s overall ranking (80) include subindexes ranking Jordan (64) in Economic Fundamentals, (77) in Entrepreneurship and innovation, (84) in Democratic Instituions, (46) in education, (59) in health, and (83) in social capital.
Jordan’s domestic safety and security ranked (47) worldwide. Good governance subindex ranked Jordan (57).
Jordan faired poor in the Legatum Prosperity Index in terms of personal freedoms, ranking Jordan (103), while bottom rankings include Iran (101), Zimbabwe (102), and Pakistan (104) faired last in personal freedoms.
In overall rankings, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway earned the top five spots in prosperity, while the United States ranked (9) and the United Kingdom ranked (12).
In the overall rankings of the Middle East region, Israel topped the region at (27), followed by the United Arab Emirates (47), Kuwait (52), Tunisia (68), Turkey (69). Saudi Arabia followed Jordan at (81), Moroco (86), Lebanon (86), Egypt (88), Algeria (96), Yemen (101), and Sudan (103).
