Labor Ministry issues list of sectors, businesses hit hard by virus crisis

Minister of Labor and Minister of State for Investment Affairs Maen Qatamin Saturday announced a monthly list of sectors and businesses hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and not allowed to open under Defense Order No. 6 and relevant circulars.

The ministry said in a statement that a number of new sectors were added to the December list, stressing that the monthly list is issued after reviewing the status of all sectors and economic activities through the ministries of Labor and Industry, Trade and Supply.

The list now includes the following: Wedding halls, gyms and health clubs, swimming pools, oriental baths, sports centers and academies, billiards and snooker centers, recreational and sports centers, electrical and electronic games centers, concerts, festivals, conferences and exhibitions facilities, theme and public parks, cinemas and theaters, educational and cultural centers facilities, and kindergartens.

The list also includes party equipment and event catering rentals, tourist establishments licensed under the Tourism Law and the regulations and instructions issued pursuant to it, including Hajj and Umrah offices, tourism businesses in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone, private museums, recruitment agencies, air, land and sea transport facilities for individuals, including specialized international transport companies for individuals, aircraft supply and catering companies, aircraft maintenance services, passenger services, duty-free shops, and branches of any of the businesses operating at airports, border crossings and public transport facilities.

Additionally, the list include the following: tourist car rental agencies, vocational and technical training centers and academies, leather and textile businesses, the Dead Sea products industry, the wood and furniture industries, tents and umbrellas manufacturers, printing and stationery businesses, university services offices, visa issuance offices, and clearance offices and companies, except for the branches operating in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone.

Among the businesses put on the December list are aviation training and aircraft maintenance academies, establishments operating in the publishing and distribution sector, popular restaurants and cafes, shops in popular markets, garment and footwear businesses, personal accessories businesses, newspapers and electronic publications, schools, driver education centers, beauty centers, and businesses working in the sale and rental of wedding dresses and accessories.

Stationary shops, libraries, photography, production and distribution facilities, media and film production studios, parties and conferences catering businesses, flowers and wedding cards shops, student transport businesses, nature reserves, food supplements shops, water bottling and selling establishments, special education centers and advertising and media businesses are also added to the list.
