Ammon News - Channel 4 documentary Inside KFC at Christmas explores how the restaurant has coped during the coronavirus pandemic, as well as its gravy shortage and how it's made.

KFC fans have been left feeling "physically sick" after discovering how the fast-food chain makes its gravy.

This week, Channel 4 premiered the one-hour documentary Inside KFC at Christmas, which gave the nation an inside look at how the restaurant prepares for the festive season.

But it was its iconic gravy recipe that caught viewers' attention.

Anne Walker, who is in charge of gravy production in the Buckshaw, Lancashire branch, explained that the gravy is made by combining 3.5 liters of water and two scoops of the KFC chicken crackling, which is made up of the leftover juices and pieces of chicken scraps from the frier.

Then Anne added a 'magic ingredient', which even the staff aren't allowed to know before whisking the mixture and putting it in the microwave.

Anne then said: "I'm a great believer if you wouldn't eat it yourself you shouldn't expect anyone else to eat it."

However, the gravy-making process didn't go down well for viewers as some admitted it made them "feel sick."

One viewer said: "Eww that's how they make the gravy #insidekfc."

Another wrote: "Just watched #insidekfcatchristmas, I love KFC gravy, I knew how it was made, but watching that woman make it, made me feel sick!"

And a third commented: "#insidekfc is anyone gonna eat that gravy after seeing how it’s made?? With all the leftovers from the chicken fryers. I feel sick."

But others couldn't see what the problem was as one said: " #insidekfc oooh the gravy. I don't care if they scrape out the bottom of the fryer it's banging!" while another admitted: "KFC gravy is absolute god tier. We have it on our family Christmas dinner no joke haha".

And a third wrote: "People getting funny about gravy being made from chicken fat. HOW DID YOU ACTUALLY THINK GRAVY WAS MADE? #Insidekfc."

KFC replied to fans' criticisms on Twitter, writing: "Yes, maybe making the gravy doesn’t look sexy; but anyone who says Bisto tastes better is a liar. #insidekfc ".
