Ammon News - The Kingdom is set to come under the effect of a several-day low-pressure system that will bring rain in much of the Kingdom throughout the week.

Late Monday, a cold air mass accompanying the low-pressure system is forecast to bring spotty showers and hail in the western highlands, according to Rafid Al Khattab, Director-General of the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

He added that rainfall is expected to intensify and cover much of the Kingdom with thunderstorms and heavy showers in some regions. The JMD director warned of flashfloods in low-lying areas and dust in desert regions.

He explained that the JMD is basing its forecast on the analysis that a high-pressure system is expected to form over central Europe which will push cold air to the Eastern Mediterranean, the area where air masses usually form.

On Tuesday, a tangible in felt temperatures is forecast but no major rainfall is expected during daytime, he added.

However, Al Khattab indicated a second cold air mass is expected to cross the Kingdom as we go into the night, bringing rain in the northern region before rainfall starts in the central and southwestern highlands.

The JMD director warned of gusty winds that will blow dust in the badia region, urging motorists who will be traveling on the desert highway and other desert roads to exercise caution.

On Wednesday, a further in mercury levels is forecast with wintery conditions across the Kingdom. Spotty heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are also a possibility.
