Safadi elected first deputy speaker of the Lower House

MP Ahmad Safadi won the position of First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House Parliament, after garnering 86 ballots, while his rival Musa Hantash got 29, with 1 ballot canceled.


During the parliamentary session, Prime Minister, Dr. Bishr Khasawneh, stressed the government's commitment to the "spirit of partnership and cooperation" within the constitutional ceilings, which His Majesty referred to in the Speech from the Throne, in accordance with the "highest" degrees of transparency to reach the best desired achievements.


The government, Khasawneh noted, will work with the lawmakers to achieve what the citizens deserve, according to the Constitution, and within the mutual respect among the Kingdom's authorities to move to a "better" future.
The premier also expressed his confidence in the Kingdom's capability to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.


Addressing the attendees after winning the speakership, Lower House Speaker, Abdul Muneim Odat , referred to the importance of "honest" review of national capabilities, with complementarity, among all the state's bodies and its social groups, to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic, and the resulting loss of life and damage inflicted on national economy, and the workforce in all sectors.


Odat also indicated that this review also aims to address Jordan's burdens triggered as a result of the prevailing conditions in the Arab neighborhood and in the whole region, in a bid to maintain its security, stability and its regional and international position.
