The Lower House of Parliament has elected MP Abdul Muneim Odat as speaker of the 19th Jordanian Parliament, which His Majesty King Abdullah II has inaugurated on Thursday, with the Speech from the Throne.
Odat won 84 votes out of 115, while his rival for speakership MP, Mohammed Inad Fayez, garnered 26 votes.
The number of MPs attending the session was 115, while 15 lawmakers were absent, and 5 ballots were cancelled.
The session's presiding Speaker, Nawaf Khawaldeh, the oldest MP, chose a 3-MP committee to oversee the speakership elections.
Earlier in the inaugural session, the deputies took the constitutional oath, based on Article 80 of the Constitution.
