Interior Minister Sameer Mobaideen Tuesday took a first-hand look at a project to raise the capacity of the rainwater drainage system in downtown Amman, where downpours inundated stores in previous years causing heavy losses.
The minister, who was accompanied by Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh, called for accomplishing the scheme on schedule, noting that it will raise the municipality's readiness for the rainy season, particularly in areas that were hit hard by emergency weather conditions.
He commended the efforts of the Amman Municipality and security bodies for their support.
For his part, Shawarbeh expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in the project, which includes the construction of box drains on streets from the Al Husseinin Grand Mosque to the Hashemite Square in the centre of the capital that can absorb high water flows during the rainy season.
