‏Jordan records 46 deaths and 2576 new Covid-19 infections

Forty-six Covid-19 fatalities and 2, 576 new cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, bringing the death toll to 3,056 and the total caseload to 240,089, the government has announced.


The new infections comprised 952 cases in the Amman Governorate, 661 in Irbid, including 11 in the northern border district of Ramtha, 263 in Zarqa, 137 in Karak, 133 in Balqa, 110 in Mafraq, 97 in Aqaba, 64 in Jerash, 58 in Madaba, 39 in Ajloun, 34 in Ma'an, including 14 in Petra district, 28 in Tafila, according to the media statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.


The number of currently active Covid-19 cases nationwide has hit 49,589, while the number of patients admitted Sunday for treatment in accredited hospitals has reached 194, the joint statement noted, adding that 177 Covid-19 recovered patients have left hospitals.


A total of 1, 689 cases are currently receiving treatment in hospitals, of which 401 patients are on ICUs, the statement pointed out.


The statement also indicated that 4,981 patients have recovered today in home isolation and hospitals, bringing the cumulative count of recoveries to 187,444.


Meanwhile, 16979 lab Covid-19 tests were conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of tests administered since the start of the pandemic until now to 2684520, with the share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, standing at 15.17 per cent, the statement added.


The Ministry of Health has also renewed its call on the public to abide by defence orders, as well as to adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.


The ministry also called on the public to follow its "I Protect Them" awareness campaign, which aims to prevent the spread of COVID-19 through increasing public commitment to preventive measures to protect individuals, their families and society members.
