Ammon News - It is reported that Separatist group « polisario » has been blocking civilian and commercial traffic in the Guerguerate buffer zone since the 21st of October, 2020, thus perpetrating an unlawful act that is in flagrant violation of the resolutions of the Security Council, and the calls of the UN Secretary General to preserve free civilian and commercial movement in Guerguerate.

Moreover, Morocco has been observing restraint and respect for international legality, an attitude that the International Community has welcomed through the UN Ssecurity Council.

It is worth mentioning that this destabilizing action is led by a group of a hundred civilians closely supervised by heavily armed military elements, equipped with mounted machine guns and as anti-aerial gear, and has been accompanied by multiple provocations towards the Armed Royal Forces, most notably at the MINURSO crossing point in Mhairiz, on October 19, 2020, as well as the destruction of the road linking between the Guerguerate border crossing on the Moroccan side and the PK-55 border crossing on the Mauritanian side, in plain sight of the International Community.

It is indicated that the involvement in the blockade of women and children demonstrates the extent of the indoctrination of the civilian population in the Tindouf camps against Morocco, a sovereign State. Moreover, the deployment of heavy and expensive weaponry discredits the victimization discourse of Algeria and « polisario » with respect to the humanitarian situation in the Tindouf camps and confirms the validity of what Morocco has always been explaining to its partners : The large-scale embezzlement of humanitarian aid that not only finances the lavish lifestyle of the « polisario » leaders, but also this separatist group’s armament in a highly unstable Sahel region.

The deployment of weapons underneath the twenty-two tents set up by « polisario » as well as the presence of its armed elements in the buffer zone do not leave any doubt as to the real intentions behind the blockade in Guerguerate. Evidently. all of these actions are intended to destabilize peace and security in the region.

The multiple attempts at mediation undertaken by MINURSO have not only failed, but also gave rise to extremely dangerous threats and actions of intimidation against the Mission’s staff.

The blockade in the Guerguerate buffer zone is an act of defiance towards the resolutions of the Security Council, in which the supreme UN body in charge of the maintenance of international peace and security has expressed its concern over the presence of « polisario » in the buffer zone, and urged it to refrain from any action that could destabilize the situation or undermine the momentum of the political process and to withdraw immediately from the buffer zone, It is also an act of open disregard towards the UN Secretary General, who has made three calls for the preservation of free civilian and commercial traffic in Guerguerate, the latest of which was on October 21, 2020.

The actions of the « polisario » militia can only be approved by Algeria, the host country of the Tindouf camps where the separatist group, which Algiers has created and been financing and arming it ever since, is headquartered.

The show of force by « polisario », which is exhibiting heavy weaponry in the buffer zone in plain sight of the international community, and the frenetic propaganda that accompanies through Algeria’s official media agency make clear the agitation of the separatist group and its patrons when faced with the credibility among the international community of Morocco’s approach, which the adoption of resolution 2548 has strengthened. They shall not disrupt the calm, the prosperity, and the stability of the Southern Provinces.

Based on its domestic mobilization, under the Enlightend Leadership of His Majesty the King, and the support of the great powers, Morocco will not yield to the diktats of « polisario » and its patrons, which are attempting to push the region into a spiral of violence and instability, the consequences of which would extend to other regions of the world.
