Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi stressed the importance of adopting mechanisms that guarantee a fair distribution of vaccines for the novel coronavirus and drugs.
Addressing, in a recorded speech, a special session of the UN General Assembly to survey the wreckage of the COVID-19 pandemic, Safadi added that such mechanisms will contribute to revitalizing the global economy.
Facing challenges that stemmed from the pandemic requires investing in strengths of each country, in order to form regional and international networks that provide the basic needs including food, health, and education.
Jordan hosts more 3.6 million refugees, of which 1.3 million are Syrians, Safari said, stressing that the burden of this issue should be shouldered collectively.
Safadi expressed appreciation for the international community's support to Jordan to alleviate economic strains related to refugees.
Safadi called on the international community to respond to the appeal of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the High Commissioner for Refugees, and to provide the needed financing that the two organizations need to continue providing their vital services, especially in light of the novel coronavirus.
