02-12-2020 01:54 PM

Ammon News -

The State Security Court (SSC) Wednesday handed down the death penalty to a man convicted of killing an Anti-Narcotics Department (NAD) officer in 2017.

The crime occurred in the Zarqa governorate early 2017 when an NAD commando force raided the hideout of the convict, who at the time was placed on most-wanted list, according to a court statement.

The convict resisted arrest and opened fire at the force, killing Sgt. Muhammad Salameh Saqarat, before fleeing the scene. However, he was later apprehended along with other 14 suspects involved in the case.

In the same case, the SSC sentenced other convicts with hard-labor prison terms ranging from 10 to 15 years and acquitted three others.
