Customs Department spokesperson, Imad Nasir, said the customs agents have managed to seize a 40-foot container reportedly loaded with large quantities of various goods, most notably laptops and surveillance cameras, in addition to foreign-origin clothes.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, the customs personnel have confiscated the seized container and the the legal action is underway, he pointed out.
"This seizure is part of the great efforts made by the Customs Department to control smuggling and entrench justice in the markets," according to the spokesperson.
To combat the phenomenon, the official said the department calls on all citizens to report any smuggling cases through the anti-smuggling numbers.
The Customs Department contributes to combating smuggling within its strategic plan, which relies on several pillars, most notably the enforcement of laws and regulations, building an integrated information system with all state agencies, and launching a partnership with the private sector to protect committed traders and combat smuggled goods, per its webiste.
