Salary hikes for public sector employees will be reintroduced as of 1

Following the directives and orders of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Prime Minister, Bisher Khasawneh, on Tuesday said that he had signed the General Budget notice, according to which salary hikes for employees of all public sectors will be reintroduced as of 1/1/2021.

The salary hikes were announced based on approved and established technical bonuses pursuant to Cabinet Resolution dated 6/1/2020 for public servants, military personnel and civil and military retirees.

In a press briefing held Tuesday evening at the Cabinet, the Prime Minister said that the government, following the directives of His Majesty the King, is working on a package that will be announced next week with the aim of expanding social protection for individuals affected by the coronavirus pandemic, pointing out that this package comes within the framework of the government's efforts to mitigate the impact of the pandemic and its social and economic challenges.

Khasawneh also affirmed that the government will start working to stimulate investment, more jobs, preserve existing jobs, and will seek to maximize strategic projects that lead to overcoming poverty and unemployment.

"We are definitely going through a challenge imposed on us by the coronavirus pandemic and accompanying conditions, and the government has taken many steps to increase the capacities and capabilities of the health sector and the health system," Khasawneh said.

The premier saluted the growing commitment of citizens to observing the rules of social distancing and wearing masks, as it is currently the only available drug, calling on citizens to continue adhering to the rules of safety and prevention.
