Minister of Health, Nazir Obeidat, said that the coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine will be provided to Jordanians and residents for free "according to specific priorities."
"There is an integrated national plan to vaccinate groups in need of the coronavirus vaccine and ensure that no dose is lost," Obeidat said in a press conference held Monday in the Prime Ministry.
He indicated that vaccinating 20 percent of citizens with the Covid-19 vaccine, which will not be mandatory, will protect the society.
He explained that the rate of beds allocated to Covid-19 patients continues to accommodate cases that require treatment in hospitals, and it is acceptable and work is underway to increase the number of beds, noting that the stability in the number of reported cases during the past week is a good indicator.
Obaidat explained that the ministry has updated the treatment protocol, which includes antivirals and other medications, according to international recommendations, expressing appreciation for efforts of the medical and nursing staff in hospitals.
The health minister pointed out that the epidemiological situation in Jordan is still serious and requires adherence to all safety and prevention measures, especially wearing face masks in the right way and maintaining social distancing.
For his part, Officer of the Covid-19 situation in Jordan at the Health Ministry, Wael Hayajneh, said that the decrease in the rate of positive samples to less than 20 percent indicates the stability of the epidemiological curve.
He added that there is cautious optimism, "and we have to show the utmost commitment during this stage to keep control of the pandemic curve, adhere to wearing masks, follow the utmost caution, and use various preventive means."
