Safadi , Russian counterpart agree coordination on regional issues

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday they agreed to intensify cooperation and consultation on Middle East issues to find solutions to crises and bring about regional security and stability.

In a phone conversation, the ministers stressed the strong Jordanian-Russian ties and the importance of the development they are witnessing in the various fields in line with the vision of the two countries' leaderships' vision to further expand effective and institutionalized cooperation.

Safadi and Lavrov reviewed regional developments and aired their views on ways to address the political developments and coordinate efforts to solve the region's crises.

On the Palestinian issue, they stressed the continuation of efforts to jumpstart serious and effective Palestinian-Israeli negotiations to resolve the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution in accordance with the international law and the Arab Peace Initiative and bring about a just and comprehensive peace.

The ministers stressed the importance of achieving Palestinian reconciliation, and Safadi hailed Moscow's role in that direction and also stressed the pivotal Egyptian role to end Palestinian divisions and unify Palestinian ranks.

Safadi also valued Russia's firm position in support of the two-state solution on the basis of the international law as the avenue to resolve the conflict and achieve a just and comprehensive peace, which is a regional and international necessity.

The ministers also asserted continued cooperation to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis that preserves the unity and cohesion of Syria and restores its security and stability.

They stressed the importance of the meetings of the Constitutional Committee under United Nations auspices, and the need to support them as a key step toward a political solution.

Safadi focused on the need to adopt effective approaches to solving the crisis with a robust Arab role in efforts to reach a political solution that ends the "catastrophe" and guarantees Syria's security, unity, stability and its role in joint Arab action.

He pointed out that ending the Syrian crisis and the suffering of the brotherly Syrian people is a priority for Jordan, which continues supporting efforts to reach a solution in coordination with Russia and all partners in the international community and the region.
