Confronting Normalization: Wadi Araba served the occupation, harmed Jordan

26-10-2009 12:00 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Higher Executive Committee for the Protection of the Homeland and Confronting Normalization called for annulling the 1994 Wadi Araba peace treaty which served the occupation and harmed Jordan, according to its statemtn.

The committee issued a statement on the 15th anniversary of the signing of the treaty, stressing that the only beneficiary of the treaty is the “Zionist enemy who succeeded in accomplishing breakthroughs and utilized [the treaty] to penetrate into other Arab countries, which negatively affected the Jordan and its products.”

The Islamic-led committee said that the peace treaty failed to work because "the land is still under occupation and the Zionist threats to Jordan are continuing, the latest of which was the allegation that Jordan represented the alternative homeland for the Palestinians."

The committee also called on all strata of society, government and businesses, to resist any normalization attempts with “the enemy, because normalization with [Israel] brings God’s wrath on its perpetrators, the curse of coming generations, and constitutes betrayal of our brethren in Palestine.”

The statement described Israel as a “discriminatory racial and expansionist entity that is foreign to the region,” and added that Israel constitutes a continuous source of threat to the region.

The committee stressed that any treaty that confers legitimacy on the occupation entity will continue to be rejected by the Jordanian people.
