Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Republic of China (Taiwan) has generously granted a USD 250,000 donation to Mercy Corps to implement a girls’ empowerment initiative.
The donation allows Mercy Corps to provide adolescent-friendly reproductive health education and psychosocial support for teenage girls in the Za’atari and Azraq refugee camps.
The signed agreement continues and expands the support that the Republic of China (Taiwan) has been providing to refugees through Mercy Corps since 2013. The overall goal of the initiative is to increase the safety, well-being and skills of adolescent girls in Za’atari and Azraq camps.
Specifically, the new funding allows Mercy Corps to train adolescent girl educators to reach their younger peers with puberty education and support and to design new girl-friendly spaces where girls can engage in recreational and educational activities. The funding also includes support to parents to improve their parenting skills.
Most activities will be led by the refugee girls themselves, with support from Mercy Corps. The project will run for a period of 12 months and complements funding that Mercy Corps receives from Unicef, the Source of Hope Foundation and others for its work in the Za’atari and Azraq refugee camps.
