Blistering heat to persist nationwide

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - For a third consecutive day, Jordan continues to bake in a blazing heat wave that pushed mercury levels well above annual average to 41C threshold in the highlands, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its forecast for Tuesday.

Despite the torrid weather, spotty and intermittent showers are forecast in the southern and eastern region, especially in the evening, with northeasterly moderate to brisk winds stirring dust in the Badia region.

In Amman and other highlands, north and south, daytime mercury levels will range between 41 and 36 degrees. In the late afternoon and evening hours, cooler weather is forecast as temperatures slide to around 26 and 24 in some southern and northern highlands.

The Jordan Valley, 212 to 400 meters below sea level, and the Red Sea port of Aqaba are set to swelter in scorching weather today and for much of this week with temperatures breaking into the 42-43C vicinity.

Over the next two days, temperatures will slightly but the effects of the blazing heat wave are forecast to persist with clouds at different altitudes and northwesterly winds.
