Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Omar Razzaz said Monday that his government fully supports enhancing the independence of the Audit Bureau to perform its oversight role to protect public money from abuse or misuse.
The Prime Minister said during a visit to the Audit Bureau, where he met with its president Assem Haddad and top bureau officials, that His Majesty King Abdullah II directs the government, like other governments, to build and strengthen the state of institutions with its executive and oversight bodies.
He referred to "a qualitative leap" in the work of the bureau and the development of its approach in building institutional capacity in the ministries and public institutions to promptly address observations on a monthly basis, noting that it took the bureau's reports in the past more than a year to reach the government, which made it harder to deal with old violations and pursue the perpetrators.
The Prime Minister said that the bureau's reports for the last three years had been addressed and that reviews of the observations are currently conducted on a monthly basis, adding that if violations or abuses emerge, they are referred to the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission or the Judiciary.
As a result of the bureau's investigations in its 2019 report, a total of 92 million dinars had been recovered, 33 cases were referred to the anti-graft commission and 20 were referred to the judicial authority.
