3 new Covid-19 cases recorded on Sunday, all imported, caseload at 1, 179

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - 3 new infections with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) were reported in the Kingdom, all imported, on Sunday, bringing the caseload since the outbreak of the pandemic to 1179, while 6 people have recovered.

The new cases belong to a Jordanian truck driver, who was tested at the Al-Omari Border Crossing, and two Jordanian citizens who have recently returned from Saudi Arabia and were residing at quarantine-designated hotels, while 36 people are still under treatment, according, Health Minister Saad Jaber said in press conference held Sunday at the Prime Ministry.

Today, Jaber added, epidemiological inspection teams conducted 5672 COVID-19 tests, bringing the total number of tests conducted since the outbreak of the virus in Jordan to 466055, indicating that a new isolation mechanism will be implemented for the infected, under which a special area in the Dead Sea will be designated for each patient with a special room that has a private bathroom and provided with the internet.

He explained that the purpose of the new mechanism is to resume work and provide services to the public and receive cases in the hospitals of Prince Hamzah and Queen Alia after completing restoration and renovation works and establishing two departments for intensive care.

On the procedures for receiving citizens and tourists when opening airports, Jaber stressed that a precise plan and criteria have been set by the Crisis Cell to keep citizens safe at home by receiving people from countries that enjoy similar epidemiological situation as in Jordan.

Regarding the disposal of medical waste, Jaber underlined that the ministry is disposing coronavirus waste by burning it in special ovens, indicating that the virus is not transmitted through the air according to the latest information.

He said that the Ministry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, has examined the content in the isolation hospitals and found that it is virus-free due to the use of chlorine and special disinfectants in an appropriate manner.
