8 new Covid-19 cases recorded in the Kingdom, caseload rises 961

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Health, Dr. Sa'ad Jaber, announced 8 new Covid-19 19 cases were recorded in the Kingdom, bringing the caseload since the start of the pandemic to 961.

Speaking during a press conference held at the Prime Ministry on Sunday, Jaber said the new cases' breakdown is as follows: 1 infection for a person arriving from Yemen, 6 contacts with an infected person in the Ramtha border district and 1 case in Al Balqa governorate.

The necessary precautions have been taken by medical teams and administrative governors to isolate areas and close facilities, according to the minister.

In a related context, 4 cases have recovered at Prince Hamza Hospital, bringing the recoveries tally to 682, while 139 are still receiving treatment.

Jaber pointed out the epidemiological investigation teams conducted 860,7 tests to detect novel coronavirus today, bringing the total tests tally carried out since the beginning of the virus outbreak in Jordan to 275,480.

The minister the Kingdom's test rate is ten times exceeding the international standard in dealing with the pandemic, which is in line with the economic openness policy.

Dr. Jaber announced the number of citizens who downloaded the Aman software-based application reached 600 thousand, adding the e-service maintains complete confidentiality in dealing with data.

Dr. Jaber called on the citizens to maintain the "good" epidemiological situation that the Kingdom has reached and to cooperate to combat the spread of the disease by downloading the Amman application and heading to the nearest health directorate if a person receives an online alert to do the virus test.

In response to the press question on reintroducing lockdown on Friday, Dr. Jaber stressed the return to curfew procedures is measured according to the disease severity matrix and the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom, adding if 10 cases were recorded for 7 consecutive days, or if 1 percent of the people tested confirm positive, then the strict procedures will be reinstated.

On foreign virus-related aid, Dr. Jaber said the international community has shown solidarity to face the pandemic and Jordan receives assistance to treat the Covid-19 in this context.

However, he said it is difficult to calculate the testing cost as different tools are used, adding a single laboratory test kit costs the Kingdom JOD20.

Jordan, he said, will not fail to provide assistance to any country if requested, adding the Kingdom provides expertise and medical support to more than 31 countries around the world.
