Safadi holds a tripartite meeting with Greek and Cypriot counterparts

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate, Ayman Safadi, held talks with his Greek and Cypriot counterparts, Nikos Dundas and Nikos Christodoulides, on Wednesday, the 3rd foreign ministers' meeting within the framework of the tripartite cooperation mechanism launched in 2016 to enhance joint economic cooperation and increase coordination in efforts to resolve regional crises and achieve security and stability.

The ministers reviewed the steps taken by the three countries to implement the outcomes of the two previous summits' decisions, held by the leaders in Nicosia on January 16, 2018, and in Amman on April 14, 2019.

During the meeting, the ministers stressed continued work to drum up cooperation in the economic, commercial, investment, tourism, defense fields and benefit from the opportunities provided by the signed agreements in the areas of antiquities protection, intellectual property, renewable energy, education, culture, technology cooperation, public health, agriculture and rural development.
The three top diplomats emphasized solidarity in facing the Covid-19 pandemic and its economic and social consequences.

On the Middle East, the ministers discussed developments related to the peace process and efforts to resolve the Syrian and Libyan crises and to combat terrorism.

On Amman's relations with the EU, they also reviewed the development of the Kingdom's relations with the bloc and the strength of the Jordanian-EU partnership.

On the trilateral steps, Safadi stressed the importance of the steps taken by the three countries to build on the outcomes of the tripartite summit in its 2nd session hosted by the Kingdom last year, which produced institutionalization of trilateral cooperation by establishing a permanent Nicosia-based secretariat, in addition to the periodic high-level meetings on the economic and security fields.
