Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Government decided on Monday to further relax the nationwide lockdown, imposed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in mid-March, allowing movement from 08:00am to 07:00pm and giving the go-ahead for the public sector to return to work on May 26, State Minister for Media Affairs Amjad Adaileh announced.
The minister also said the odd-even vehicle movement system will no longer be applicable to public transport starting tomorrow and this includes buses, taxis and cars operating through ride-hailing applications, which must adhere to safety measures and take in only 50 percent of their passenger capacity.
Speaking from the National Center for Security and Crisis Management, Adaileh said the nation will observe a three-day Eid al-Fitr holiday from May 23 to 25 of the same month, indicating that in the first day of Eid, vehicle movement will not be allowed. He added that in the second day of the Eid holiday, citizens will be allowed to use their vehicles while following the odd-even system.
The movement window either by vehicles or on foot will remain unchanged from 08:00am to 07:00pm but travel between governorates will remain banned, Adaileh said. Additionally, the country will continue to observe a complete lockdown on Fridays until further notice. According to Adaileh, public servants will receive their salaries by mid-next week to prepare for the holy feast marking the end of Ramadan.
The minister, who is also the government spokesman, said the return of female public sector employees, particularly those who keep their children at nurseries during work hours, will be taken into consideration and will be regulated by a back-to-work set of guidelines the government will announce tomorrow.
