House Speaker urges bill banning Israeli gas imports

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Atef Tarawneh on Sunday called on the chamber's legal committee to grant a status of urgency to a proposal set forth by lawmakers demanding the cancellation of an agreement to import gas from Israel.

Fifty-eight members of the house signed a memorandum demanding the government to cancel an agreement signed between the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) and Noble Energy to import natural gas from Israel.

MP Wafaa Bani Mustafa had also asked the legal committee to expedite the decision on the bill.

Head of the legal committee, Abdel-Moneim al-Odat, stated that the draft bill reached the committee on 12 December, adding that the committee will study its legal aspects.
