Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Speaker of the Lower House, Atef Tarawneh, Sunday, called on the government to make a set of important economic decisions that positively impact the lives of low income families.
This came during a meeting held by the Lower House's Finance Committee, headed by Tarawneh.
Tarawneh said that the council held a series of meetings with the government prior to sending the draft general budget law to the government for 2020, adding that a number of major issues were agreed on, including eliminating imbalances in salaries among public sector employees, stressing the House's rejection of this disparity.
The House asked the government to merge entities, especially energy agencies, Tarawneh said, adding that the Kingdom has entities that incur a significant financial cost to the state, calling for their mergence, reviewing the energy agreements within a specific timetable and informing the legislative council of the results of the audit.
He also called for monitoring the budgets of government companies, as they receive support from the state treasury, and are not subject to oversight.
The legislator spoke about the need to direct support to universities in a proper manner, and to a state of legislative stability for legislation, agreements and memoranda of understanding.
He also criticized the government's failure to adhere to the figures stipulated in the budgets, calling for the use of real applicable figures, speaking about the partnership between the public and private sectors, urgeing more work to achieve this.
Tarawneh appreciated the government's implementation of the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II on economic packages, which had a tangible impact.
He called on the government to reduce sales tax on food commodities to support Jordanians.
