Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Saturday that the United Nations General Assembly's vote to extend the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency's (UNRWA) mandate until 2023 is "deemed as support for the refugees" right to live in dignity."

The vote passed 169 to two, with only Israel and the United States opposing it, and nine countries abstained.

"The vote by an overwhelming majority is a reiteration of the clear and candid international position on the importance of the agency continuing its role towards millions of Palestinian refugees in the areas of education, health and relief aid, and support of their right to live in dignity," the ministry's spokesman Daifallah Al Fayez said in a press statement.

He noted that the refugees' issue is one of the final status issues that should be resolved in line with international legitimacy resolutions, particularly resolution 194 and the Arab peace Initiative, "in a manner that guarantees their right to compensation and return."

Fayez said Jordanian diplomacy has continued to support UNRWA.
